The History of the Disney Princesses in relation with The Alfred Angelo Bridal Disney Range

Disney Princess is a media franchise owned by The Walt Disney Company. Created by Disney Consumer Products chairman Andy Mooney in the late 1990s, the franchise features a line-up of fictional female heroines who have appeared in various Disney franchise.

The franchise doesn’t actually include all noted princesses from any Disney media as its name suggested, but only certain members are commonly used, mainly from animated films. The eleven current members of the franchise are Snow WhiteCinderellaAurora,ArielBelleJasminePocahontasMulanTianaRapunzel and Merida.[1][2] The franchise has released dolls, sing-along videos, apparel, home decor, toys and a variety of other products[3] featuring the Disney Princesses.

History and conception

“Standing in line in the arena, I was surrounded by little girls dressed head to toe as princesses…They weren’t even Disney products. They were generic princess products they’d appended to a Halloween costume. And the light bulb went off. Clearly there was latent demand here. So the next morning I said to my team, “‘O.K., let’s establish standards and a color palette and talk to licensees and get as much product out there as we possibly can that allows these girls to do what they’re doing anyway: projecting themselves into the characters from the classic movies.'”

—Mooney, on his creation of the Disney Princess franchise as reported by The New York Times.[4]

Former Nike, Inc. executive Andy Mooney was appointed chairman of The Walt Disney Company‘s Disney Consumer Products division in the late 1990s.[4][5] While attending the his first Disney on Ice show, Mooney noticed that several young girls attending the show were dressed in princess attire that were not authentic Disney products.[6] “They were generic princess products they’d appended to a Halloween costume,” Mooney told The New York Times. Concerned by this, Mooney addressed the company the following morning and encouraged them to commence work on a legitimate Disney Princess franchise in January 2000.[4]

The original line-up consisted of princesses Snow WhiteCinderellaAuroraArielBelle,JasminePocahontasMulan and Tinker Bell, four of whom are royal by blood, two whom have married into royalty, and two others who fit in the “princess mythology.” However, Tinker did not fit and was removed from the line-up. This was the first time the characters would be marketed in a separate franchise than their original films. Mooney decided that, when featured on marketing advertisements such as posters, the princesses should never make eye contact with each other in an attempt to keep their individual “mythologies” intact. “[Each] stares off in a slightly different direction as if unaware of the others’ presence.”[4]Image

Despite limited advertising and no focus groups, the various Disney Princess items released became a huge success.[4] Sales at Disney Consumer Products rose from $300 million in 2001 to $3 billion in 2006.

Tiana, officially on March 15, 2010, became the first additional character to the Princess franchise taking Tinker Bell’s short-lived place as the ninth member. Her coronation took place at the New York Palace.[7] Rapunzel was “coronated” and officially inducted into the Disney Princess franchise on October 2, 2011 at Kensington Palace in London, England.[8] On May 11, 2013, Disney officially added the first Pixar character Merida as the 11th Princess to the franchise in a coronation ceremony at in front of Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Disney World.[1]Image

Unconfirmed reports in early 2014 state that Anna and Elsa from the Disney film Frozen, will be added to the Disney Princess franchise as the twelfth and thirteenth princesses in 2014, making Frozen the first Disney film to feature two Disney princesses.[9]

Disney Princesses

Originals

Snow White

Snow White is the first and original Disney Princess. A main character in Walt Disney Animation Studios‘ first animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Snow White is a beautiful young princess born with skin as white as snow, hair as black as ebony, and lips red as the rose. She is forced to seek refuge in the home of the seven dwarfs, where she hides from her evil stepmother, The Queen, who is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and seeks her death. Snow White is often described as a kind, optimistic, and happy person who sees the good in everyone. Originally voiced by Adriana Caselotti, she is based on the heroine of the German fairy tale Snow White (1812) by the Brothers Grimm. She has also been voiced by Mary Kay Bergman, Carolyn Gardener, and most recently Katherine Von Till.

Cinderella

Cinderella is the second Disney Princess and the title character in Disney’s 12th animated feature film Cinderella, released in 1950. She is often considered the “Leader of the Disney Princesses”. Forced into servitude by her evil stepmother and cruel stepsisters, Cinderella dreams of going to the ball. When all seems lost, her fairy godmother allows her to attend, where she meets and falls in love with the Prince. Cinderella is based on the heroine of the French fairy tale Cinderella by Charles Perrault. Originally voiced by Ilene Woods, in recent animated features she is currently voiced by Jennifer Hale. In the original movie, Cinderella’s hair was intended to be more of a strawberry-blonde color, but today she is depicted as having blonde hair.

Aurora

Aurora, originally voiced by Mary Costa, is the third Disney Princess. She first appeared in Disney’s 16th animated feature film Sleeping Beauty (1959). The motion picture is adapted from the French fairy tale The Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault (1697), from the German fairy tale Little Briar Rose (1812) by The Brothers Grimm and from The Sleeping Beauty ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1890). Aurora has hair of sunshine gold, lips that shame the red rose and is often described as beautiful, kind, shy and sophisticated. She is also a hopeless romantic. At first, she is seen as a little naive and insecure as a result of being sheltered for most of her life, but unlike Snow White, she is somewhat pluckier and more opinionated. In later media, she is shown to have matured and become more self-assured, independent and confident. She was later voiced by Erin TorpeyJennifer Hale and is currently voiced by Kate Higgins.

Ariel

Ariel is the fourth Disney Princess, as well as the title character in Disney’s 28th animated feature film The Little Mermaid, released in 1989. Daughter of King Triton and the youngest of seven sisters, Ariel is a princess in the undersea kingdom Atlantica (according to later media in the franchise). Fascinated by the human world and tired of life under the sea, Ariel makes a deal with Ursula the sea witch, trading her voice in return for humanity. Based on the Danish fairy tale The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, Ariel is voiced by Jodi Benson. The character was inspired by the protagonist in Andersen’s story, but was developed into a different personality for the film.[10] Ariel is fiercely independent and a dreamer, which is notable in her collecting of human world treasures in her private grotto. She is bold and a risk-taker. Ariel is distinguished by her bright red hair, purple/lavender seashell bra and green tail.

Belle

Belle is the fifth Disney Princess, first introduced in Walt Disney Picture’s 30th animated feature film Beauty and the Beast (1991). Based on the heroine of the French fairy tale byJeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont, Belle was created by screenwriter Linda Woolverton[11] and originally animated by James Baxter[12] and Mark Henn.[13] Originally voiced byPaige O’Hara, Belle is currently voiced by Julie Nathanson.

Frustrated with her provincial village life, book-loving Belle longs for adventure. When her father Maurice is imprisoned by a hideous beast, Belle sacrifices her own freedom in return for his. At first frightened by the Beast’s physical appearance and repulsed by his selfishness, Belle learns to appreciate him after he rescues her from a pack of hungry wolves, expressing her gratitude by tending to his wounds. While the Beast’s love for Belle gradually results in him adapting a more friendly and civil manner, Belle befriends him, eventually managing to fall in love with him by the time the last petal falls off an enchanted rose, which ultimately breaks a spell cast on him and transforms him back into a handsome prince.

Personality-wise, Belle has been regarded as an independent,[14] intelligent,[15] courageous[16] and headstrong,[17] as well as a feminist.[18] The character has been universally lauded by critics, garnering specific praise and recognition for her intelligence and bravery. The Los Angeles Times hailed Belle as one of the Disney Princesses responsible for “break[ing] the bonds of convention”.[19] The Globe and Mail praised the character, complimenting her intellect and labeling her the “main attraction of Beauty and the Beast“.[20]Entertainment Weekly highlighted the character’s independence, calling her “the hero” of the film and accrediting her with making Beauty and the Beast the best Disney Princess film.[21] The Washington Post described Belle as “more mature, more womanly and less blandly asexual” than previous Disney heroines.[22] The American Film Institute nominated Belle for its list of 100 Years…100 Heroes and Villains.[23] Belle remains the best-received Disney Princess to-date.

Jasmine

Jasmine is the sixth Disney Princess and the leading lady of Disney’s 31st animated feature film Aladdin (1992). Jasmine hungers for independence, tired of the restrictions laid before her by her father. She falls in love with Aladdin while he is disguised as a prince, after he takes her on a romantic ride on a magic carpet. Aladdin’s genie companion is summoned by Jafar, who uses the genie’s magic to tyrannically overthrow Jasmine’s father, the Sultan. Luckily, after Jafar’s defeat, the Sultan permits Jasmine to wed Aladdin despite his lack of royal heritage. Princess Jasmine is voiced by Linda Larkin, and her singing voice is provided by Lea Salonga (in the feature film) and Liz Callaway (in the direct-to-video sequel).

Jasmine is based on Princess Badroulbadour from the One Thousand and One Nights tale of “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp”.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas is the seventh Disney Princess and first appeared in Disney’s 33rd animated feature film Pocahontas (1995). Based on the Native American chief’s daughter,Pocahontas (c. 1595–1617), and the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Pocahontas is displayed as a noble, independent and highly spiritual young woman. She expresses wisdom beyond her years and offers kindness and guidance to those around her. An adventure and nature lover, in the film she appears to have shamanic powers since she was able to commune with nature, talk to spirits, empathize with animals and understand unknown languages. In the sequel, Pocahontas seems to have grown after hearing of John Smith’s assumed death. She keeps her independent spirit and playfulness, but is much more mature and self-assured than she was in the first film. During her stay in England, she nearly loses herself in the hustle and bustle of the new world and is almost turned into someone she’s not. But in the end she bravely intends to sacrifice herself for her people’s safety and returns to her homeland, finding herself, and love, once again. She was voiced by Irene Bedard while her singing was provided by Judy Kuhn.

Mulan

Fa Mulan is the eighth Disney Princess and first appeared in Disney’s 36th animated feature film Mulan (1998). The movie is adapted from the legend of Hua Mulan (386–536). Mulan, atypical and unlike most previous female roles, is courageous and more self-reliant. She also does not fit in with the expectations of a young Chinese girl of the time; despite her natural beauty, she is clumsy, outspoken, and independent rather than graceful, silent and demure. Her meeting with the matchmaker ended in chaos because of this, (with help from a certain cricket), and the matchmaker claimed that even though she had the looks of a bride, she would never find a match. However, her courage, intelligence, and determination helped her through her adventures, in which she disguises herself as a male soldier in order to fight in the Chinese army in place of her wounded father. She was voiced by Ming-Na while her singing was provided by Lea Salonga.

Additions

Tiana

Tiana, voiced by Anika Noni Rose, is the ninth Disney Princess character to be incorporated into the franchise, appearing in Disney’s 49th animated feature film The Princess and the Frog (2009). Her film is loosely based on the novel The Frog Princess by E. D. Baker, which is in turn based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale The Frog Prince. Tiana is portrayed as being a hardworking, ambitious, and beautiful young woman who has no love interest (at the start of the film). Living in New Orleans, Louisiana, during the 1920s, Tiana strives to achieve her goal of opening her own restaurant (an ambition inspired by the accomplishments of real life restaurateur Leah Chase).[24] However, she is transformed into a frog after trying to break a spell cast by a Bokor on Prince Naveen that had changed him into a frog also. Throughout the film, the pair must embark on a quest to find a way to break the spell.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel is the tenth Disney Princess. First appearing in Walt Disney Picture’s fiftieth animated feature film Tangled (2010), Rapunzel was based on the heroine of the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Created by screenwriter Dan Fogelman, Rapunzel was originally animated by Glen Keane, and is voiced by recording artist and actress Mandy Moore. The character was “coronated” and officially inducted into the Disney Princess franchise on October 2, 2011 at Kensington Palace in London, England.[8][25][26]

A princess born with long, magical golden hair, Rapunzel, stolen from her parents at infancy, is raised by Mother Gothel, a vain woman who exploits her hair to remain young and beautiful. Incarcerated in an isolated tower for eighteen years, Rapunzel enlists the help of a wanted thief named Flynn Rider to see the floating lanterns in time for her eighteenth birthday.

Rapunzel is notably the first Disney Princess to appear in a CGI film, but is frequently revamped to a traditionally-animated design when appearing in merchandising alongside fellow, classically-animated Princesses.

The character has been generally well received by most critics. Particular praise was awarded to her spirited personality and contemporaneity. The Los Angeles Times described Rapunzel as “a very modern young woman”.[27] The New Yorker called Rapunzel a witty and intelligent character,[28] while USA Today wrote, “Rapunzel is more believable in her teenage histrionics” than previous Disney heroines.[29] However, some reviews, such as the two provided by Time Out, were less favorable in their opinions of the character, describing her as both a “bland”[30] and “synthetic” character.[31]

Merida

Merida is the eleventh Disney princess, first appearing in the Pixar film Brave (2012),[1] Voiced by Kelly Macdonald, the character’s singing voice is provided by Julie Fowlis. created by director and screenwriter Brenda Chapman. Merida is the 16-year old daughter of Queen Elinor, who rules the kingdom alongside King Fergus. Queen Elinor’s expectations of her daughter make Merida see her mother as being distant while also causing friction between the two. Despite Elinor’s desire to see Merida as a proper royal lady, Merida is an impetuous girl who wants to take control of her own destiny. She has honed her skill in archery, and is one of the most skilled archers ever seen. She is also skilled in sword-fighting and cross-country horse riding on her horse, Angus.

She is the first Disney princess in the line-up to not have a love interest in her film. She is also the first Pixar and the second CGI princess.

Reception

The Disney Princess franchise has received mixed reception from critics and customers, particularity feminists.

Tension has been present between the Disney Corporation and feminists ever since the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. The type of representations of women in Disney films reflect Walt Disney’s personal feelings about family life, which in turn also shaped the Disney Company. Another influence was the fact that Disney’s attitudes mirrored the patriarchal cultural beliefs of the 1940s about what roles women should play in society.[41]

On December 24, 2006, Peggy Orenstein published “What’s Wrong With Cinderella?” in The New York Times. In her article, Orenstein discussed her concerns about the effects of princess figures on young girls. Orenstein used the Disney Princesses specifically to present many of her points. Orenstein also noted the pervasive nature of Princess merchandise and that every facet of play has its princess equivalent.[4] Tamara Weston of Time magazine criticized the franchise, referring to the princesses as “damsels in distress” and negative role models for young girls.[42]

The introduction of different ethnicities in Disney animated features has also faced skeptical reactions, as well as criticism, from authors and media alike. An example is Princess Sofia in “Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess”, presented as Disney’s first Latina princess. Dubious reactions to Disney’s statement about the Princess being a Latina and the lack of characteristics actually identifying her as such placed the studio under mild fire and fueled discussions in the blogosphere. Similar reactions were evident upon the release of “The Princess and the Frog” regarding the main heroine, Tiana.[43]

Alfred Angelo’s Disney princess Jasmine 2014

If I do marry, I want it to be for love.
―Princess JasmineImage

Princess Jasmine is the deuteragonist of Disney’s 1992 animated featureAladdinits 1994-96 sequels, and the 1994-96 animated TV series in the saga.  She is from the Middle Eastern kingdom of Agrabah and is the 6th official Disney Princess.

Jasmine is the daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah, and thus, is a Princess. Jasmine’s mother is rarely mentioned, and she is presumably dead. In the first film, Jasmine has become frustrated with the duties of being a princess, and longs for a life outside of the palace. This clashes with the fact that, according to the law, Jasmine must marry before her next birthday, which results in a problem because Jasmine wishes to marry for love rather than for wealth, glory and power. Jasmine is an official member of the Disney Princess franchise, and is so far the only Princess with an Arabian/Middle Eastern physical appearance.

Personality

Jasmine is free-spirited, and in many ways resembles the “rebellious princess” archetype. She is very pretty and expresses her feelings if she wishes to. Jasmine also never brings down anyone else and she never lets no one bring her down from doing what she wants.

She also cares very much for children as shown in the TV series in episodes like Do The Rat ThingWeb of FearFowl WeatherOf Ice and Men and The Ethereal where she comforts them, is sweet and nice to them and where saves their lives from any danger.

Physical Appearance

Jasmine is a very beautiful young woman with medium skin and long, lustrous black hair, big brown eyes, and a distinct hourglass figure. She normally wears her black hair in a ponytail, held together by 2 light blue bands. She normally wears a light blue tube top with loops for her arms, allowing her figure to be shown, and matching pants along with blue shoes. For formal occasions, she has a purple outfit that covers more of her skin and a hair accessory. When Jafar takes control of Agrabah for a short while, he makes Jasmine wear a red outfit with several golden accessories, such as a snake bracelet and gold earrings. Jafar later creates a gold crown for Jasmine from her shackles when he decides to make her his queen.

When Mirage tricks her into using a fake beauty potion, she begins turning into a lamia-like monster. Happening in steps, her legs transform into a tail, then all but her head is transformed into a humanoid reptilian body (arms still existing) with poisnous quills on her tail and red eyes with yellow slits. Finally, her hair turns into a cobra hood with her ears missing and patterns inside it that resemble her earrings.

Abilities

  • Intuitive Aptitude: Jasmine is quite intuitive, and she has described herself as a fast learner. After one demonstration from Aladdin, Jasmine was able to pole vault across a rooftop.
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: In the series, Jasmine is shown to have excellent fighting skills, possibly learned by adventuring with Aladdin. She can hold her own in a fight, and displays some very impressive fighting skill in the television series.
  • Physical Strength: And despite her appearance, Jasmine has impressive physical strength, as she could push over a large statue in the third movie.

    Aladdin

Jasmine is the soon-to-be 16-year-old daughter of the Sultan of Agrabah. By law of the time, Jasmine must be married by a prince in three days before her birthday. The Sultan is angered and frustrated when she continues to reject suitors and angers one of them when she letsRajah attack him. She is unwilling to marry any of the princes her father suggests, as she wants to marry for love rather than for wealth and power, and would thus be treated as simply arm candy and as a man’s property (as women in most ancient cultures often were, except for Ancient Egypt, Ancient Sparta and the Later Middle Ages, for example). She continues with the distress that she never has had any real friends, save for Rajah, and that she hasn’t even been outside the palace walls. Eventually, Jasmine runs away from home, in the disguise of a peasant, but having never been outside the palace before, she inadvertently gets into trouble when she gives an apple to a young boy without paying for it.

Before the merchant can punish her by amputating her hand, a street urchin named Aladdin quickly steps in and saves her by claiming that Jasmine is his mentally-ill sister. Jasmine plays along, pretending that she believes Abu to be the Sultan, and that a camel is her doctor. Aladdin leads Jasmine to his home, where they talk. Aladdin reveals his wish that he could be rich, while Jasmine wishes for freedom. They both come to realise they have a lot in common by feeling “trapped” in the life they were born into. Jasmine and Aladdin begin to show feelings for each other, but Aladdin is arrested by guards led by Razoul. Jasmine reveals herself to them and demands that they let Aladdin go, but Razoul explains that he is doing so on Jafar‘s orders.

Jasmine confronts Jafar and demands that they release Aladdin, but he tells her that Aladdin has already been executed; Jasmine is left distraught and blames herself, realizing that she never learned his name. The Sultan soon learns of the matter, and chastises Jafar. Jasmine then points out that, even though she is forced to marry, she would be able to punish Jafar after becoming Queen – not knowing that Jafar was internally planning on making Jasmine his own queen.

After Aladdin’s wish to become a prince is granted to him by the Genie, he visits Jasmine in the guise of ‘Prince Ali Ababwa’. She initially believes him to be just another arrogant suitor, after hearing ‘Prince Ali’ speak to the Sultan about his intentions to “win Jasmine.” After a rather disastrous meeting on Jasmine’s balcony, Aladdin is able to convince Jasmine to go for a ride on his Magic Carpet. During the ride, Jasmine falls in love with the disguised Aladdin, but Jasmine soon sees through Aladdin’s disguise, after noticing that Prince Ali had the same habits as the market boy she had met. Later, after carpet takes the two to watch some fireworks where she tricks him into revealing the truth. She is angered at the lie, but Aladdin convinces her that he sometimes dressed up as a commoner to “escape the pressures of palace life,” which she relates to. She is taken back to the palace and the two share a kiss.

When Jasmine returns home she appears happy and expresses that to her father. However, she is told by her father that she is to marry Jafar. Jasmine is shocked, and attempts to tell the Sultan her decision to marry Prince Ali. When Jafar claims that the prince left, Aladdin suddenly appears, relating the news that Jafar had tried to kill him. When the Sultan agrees with Jafar that Aladdin is lying, Aladdin realizes that Jafar is hypnotizing the Sultan and breaks the spell by smashing his magic staff. Jafar is revealed as a traitor and forced to flee. The Sultan then notices Aladdin and Jasmine in each other’s arms, and realizes that Jasmine has chosen a suitor.

Jasmine announces her decision to marry Aladdin, the next day; however, Jafar takes over Agrabah by stealing the lamp from Aladdin and wishing to be sultan. He commands Jasmine and Sultan to bow to him but she hastily refuses. Jasmine learns of Aladdin’s true identity, after Jafar uses his magic to forcefully change Aladdin back to a peasant.

After sending Aladdin to the ends of the Earth, Jafar makes Jasmine his personal slave. She is distressed in that Iago is torturing her father and begs Jafar to make him stop. He then offers her the chance to become his Queen, citing her beauty and creating a crown for her from her chains with a wave of his hand. She hotly refuses and splashes a cup of wine in his face. He is about to punch her in the face when he comes up with a more gentlemanly idea. He commands the Genie to grant his wish that Jasmine fall in love with him. After seeing that Aladdin has returned, Jasmine distracts Jafar by pretending that she is in love with him, so that Aladdin can get the lamp. She throws him many compliments of everything: of his height, skin, beard and even his gapped teeth. When Aladdin’s cover is about to be blown from a fruit bowl that fell during a scuffle between Abu and Iago, Jasmine becomes desperate and kisses Jafar to keep him distracted (much to the disgust of Aladdin, Abu and Iago). This was a successful ruse, until Jafar sees Aladdin’s reflection in Jasmine’s crown, and attacks him. When Jasmine tries to grab the lamp, Jafar imprisons her in an hourglass, where she is almost suffocated by sand before Aladdin rescues her.

Aladdin ultimately defeats Jafar and has him imprisoned in a lamp of his own (as Jafar had wished to be an all-powerful Genie). After seeing that Jasmine is in love with Aladdin, and noting his valor, the Sultan changes the marriage law. Instead of being forced to marry a prince, she can marry whomever she deems worthy. Upon hearing this, Jasmine happily chooses Aladdin and the two ride off on the magic carpet to celebrate their engagement.

In the first direct-to-video sequel The Return of Jafar, Jasmine begins to question her choice in Aladdin, wondering if he was trustworthy enough after he defends Iago, Jafar’s former pet parrot who had terrorized her father. She quickly gets over these questions with Iago’s help, when he reminds her of how much she loves Aladdin, and using reverse psychology and calling her bluff in the song “Forget About Love”.

Jasmine apologizes to Iago soon after when he suggests Aladdin and the Sultan go for a carpet ride together (which is in fact a trap), and her kindness almost prompts Iago into a confession, but Jafar scares him into silence before Iago can say anything further.

She is later captured by Jafar, who magically impersonates her in an attempt to have Aladdin killed off. It seems to be primarily her disappointment and anger at Iago which finally prompts him to help free Genie. Jasmine finally accepts Iago as a friend after he helps defeat Jafar. At the end of the film, Jasmine goes with Aladdin to see the world.

Jasmine aids Aladdin, Abu, Carpet, Iago and the Genie in their adventures, often proving herself to be an invaluable aide in their adventures, and not just a damsel in distress. She also has several episodes (including “The Garden of Evil”, “Forget Me Lots“, “Do the Rat Thing“, “The Secret of Dagger Rock” and “SandSwitch“) in which her personality, skill, intelligence and loving heart are focused on. Her relationship with Aladdin develops during this series and culminates in their marriage in the third movie.

In the series, Jasmine is shown to have excellent fighting skills, possibly learned by adventuring with Aladdin. When scorned or threatened, Jasmine can become quite enraged at her offender, including Aladdin. In one episode she viciously attacked Abis Mal after learning she was used for an evil scheme of his. Of all the members of the group, Jasmine has made the most daring sacrifices often giving up her freedom to save her loved ones or even complete strangers, a good example would be in “The Ethereal“, when she sacrificed herself to save a boy named Tanti. She once commented on this in the episode “Bad Mood Rising“, telling Aladdin “I was raised a princess, Aladdin, and a princess knows, the needs of the people outweighs her own.”

Finally, in the third direct-to-video movie, Aladdin and the King of Thieves(1996) she and Aladdin are finally about to wed, when their wedding is interrupted by the Forty Thieves. After learning what they were after, Aladdin finds out from the Oracle his father Cassim is still alive. Jasmine convinces him to seek out his father, and that their wedding can be delayed a little bit longer.

While he is away, Jasmine grows worried and Genie cheers her up by dressing her in bridal outfits (And comically posing as many iconic celebrities and movie characters, one of which Robin Williams himself played the role of). When Aladdin returns with Cassim, she and the Sultan take an immediate liking to him. However, he later tries to steal the Oracle, and is put in prison; Aladdin helps him escape, but comes back to face his punishment. Jasmine and the Genie convince the Sultan that he helped his father out of love. At that moment, Iago (who was with Cassim) returns, telling them that Cassim has been captured by Sa’luk and the remaining Thieves.

Jasmine goes with Aladdin to rescue his father, and afterward they return for their wedding, which Cassim attends from the shadows. They go for a ride on Carpet, waving good-bye to the Merchant from the first film and Iago and Cassim as they ride off. The two then kiss passionately.

    House of Mouse

Jasmine makes numerous cameos in House of Mouse. In “Ladies Night”, Jasmine comments to Ariel on Clarabelle’s dance of seven veils by saying “She looks like a cow.” More commonly, Jasmine can be seen in crowd shots sitting with her father. She was seen at the beginning of “Goofy’s Valentine Date” kissing Aladdin and shocked by Mickey’s light show in “Rent Day.” In Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, she and Aladdin were singing alongside other guest while being trapped inside the club.

After a long struggle for Aladdin’s magic lamp, Kilala uses it to wish for knowledge of Jasmine’s location. They find the princess and unharmed. They take her back to the palace, and Jasmine tells her father, the Sultan, about her new friends. The Sultan gives Kilala a giant diamond as a token of friendship; but she later gives it back. Jasmine made an appearance in the first season episode of Sofia the First, “Two to Tangu” on June 14, 2013. She appeared in her new design. Jasmine helped Sofia and Amber tame a wild, flying carpet by teaching them not to be afraid. She sang a new song with them, “The Ride of Our Lives.” She is the second Disney Princess to meet Sofia, the first beingCinderella.

Interestingly, while Princess Jasmine sports her new redesigned look, her old style of ponytail, that was sectioned into two, (instead of the new regular-looking ponytail) is retained. This is more than likely because the previous hairstyle was easier to animate than the new free-flowing style.

Alfred Angelo’s Disney 2014 Rapunzel Bridal Collection

 “I am the lost princess, aren’t I!?
―Rapunzel angrily to Gothel

Princess Rapunzel is the main protagonist in Disney’s 2010 animated feature film Tangled and its 2012 short sequel. Rapunzel is loosely based on the classic German fairy tale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. She is a very beautiful princess with long magical hair who, with the aid of a handsome thief, leaves her secluded tower to explore the outside world.

ImageRapunzel-disney-princess-22935939-267-300ImageImageImageImageImage

Background

Rapunzel is not a typical Disney Princess; she carries her blonde hair, which is 70 feet long and has the magical ability to both heal and reverse aging when she sings a special Healing Incantation song. Kidnapped byMother Gothel when she was still an infant, Rapunzel had been raised and locked away in a tall tower up until her 18th birthday, when she is ‘rescued’ by Flynn Rider. However, she does view Mother Gothel as her maternal mother despite being kidnapped. Rapunzel spends her time painting, cooking, candle-making, reading, brushing her hair, playing withPascal, observing the outside world from within the tower, singing, and interacting with Mother Gothel. Being immensely fascinated by the floating lanterns that took place on her birthday every year, Rapunzel begins to develop a sense of curiosity and seeks to fulfill the dream of seeing those “lights in the sky” one day. However, she does not overcome Mother Gothel’s strict guardianship and thus has been staying in the tower, longing for the day when her life “begins”.

Personality

Rapunzel is a spirited, smart, clever, kind, playful, and a very adventurous girl in her late teens, though a bit naive. However, she is not afraid to stand up for herself or others when the situation calls for bravery. Having spent all of her life isolated in a tower with little else to do, she is proficiently educated in literature, and talented in almost all areas such as music and baking and even more advanced subjects like astronomy, as illustrated by her completely charted astronomical patterns. Her greatest passion is art, as indicated by the pervasive amount of painting on the walls inside the tower. While she longs to see the world beyond her window, she is very obedient to Mother Gothel. Despite having ambivalent feelings after leaving her tower in excitement to finally see the world, she confronts and rebels against Mother Gothel’s wish of her returning to the tower after a short journey with Flynn Rider. She is quite daring; leaping from tall cliffs and swinging great lengths with her hair. She is completely immune to Flynn’s so-called charms and has little tolerance for his antics, which usually results in her utilizing the pan against Flynn. She is also very charismatic; able to influence a group of pub thugs to share their dreams and convince Maximus, the palace steed of the Captain, to postpone his pursuit of Flynn until she fulfills her dream on her birthday (which is heavily emphasized). Rapunzel is also known, particularly byPascal, to be quite trustworthy and never ever breaks the promises she makes.

She is very determined to accomplish her dream of seeing the floating lights, even strong-arming Flynn into going along with her plan and passing any other obstacle along the way, as well as tricking Gothel into making her beloved mother travel for three days to get a white paint for her birthday (of course, to buy some time). Although she initially feared that the dream of seeing those lights may not meet her expectation and that there would be no other means to pursue in life after that dream has been fulfilled, Rapunzel is able to overcome those fears by having Flynn’s support and belief that a new dream will emerge in place of the fulfilled one. Rapunzel is also rebellious, tough, and courageous, as seen with the thugs.

Physical appearance

Rapunzel is an 18-year old teenager and is considered a beauty. She has pale skin with a light tint of blush to it and is mostly known for her golden blonde hair which in length is around 70 feet though her hair is naturally brown, like her parents’. Rapunzel also has light freckles, as well as large bright green eyes, and a playful smile.

Rapunzel’s dress has a purple theme, with a pink accent. The dress itself consists of a corset top, lavender in color and laced with a pink ribbon. The skirt is purple and decorated with swirl designs, in pink, dark purple and white. She also wears a white petticoat underneath. The skirt’s hemline is above her ankles, but well below her calves. Her sleeves, at the top, are puffed and striped, pink and lavender, and the rest, is a pale, baby pink, with white lace at the end. Rapunzel does not wear shoes, preferring to go barefoot.

Powers and Abilities

Healing Ability: Supposedly channeling the power of sun itself, Rapunzel’s hair could reverse damages done to humans including a complete regeneration of damaged tissues and organs as well as reverse aging to a certain degree. The subject must physically be in contact with the hair in order for the magic to work wh en the special song begins; her hair also emits a glowing yellow-golden light when the magic activates.

The song (named “Healing Incantation“) goes:

Flower gleam and glow
Let your power shine
Make the clock reverse
Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt
Change the fate’s design
Save what has been lost
Bring back what once was mine
once was mine

Superhuman Prehensile: Rapunzel’s hair also possesses a limited prehensile ability: grappling and grabbing objects that easily outweigh herself without straining or hurting in any way. She revealed that her hair would turn brown should it be cut, and such an act also warrants immediate loss of magic.

Superhuman Strength: Rapunzel also has superhuman strength to a lesser degree; swinging from one cliff to another and suspending herself in the air using leverage of her hair as well as hoisting Gothel up into thetower day after day, to her amazement. Additionally, her hair appeared almost weightless whenever she carried it; needless to say, a normal person cannot, by any means, perform any of the stunts done by Rapunzel with this much hair. Considering the extraordinary amount of hair, she had shown a great deal of agility and dexterity with her hair, such as climbing to high altitudes, jumping off such without much effort, and running just as fast as Flynn, who was a professional thief and does not possess the same amount of hair as Rapunzel did.

Superhuman Adaption: Like Ariel, Rapunzel has shown high adaptability; she took roughly two seconds to adjust to the environment of the world. Additionally, she was once trapped in an underwater cave and seemingly was able to swim, which is humanly impossible because she was never taught to. It is observed that her power could still be channeled through her tears even after her hair has seemingly completely lost the magic. It may be that the actual source of energy is in her heart, and as such will only activate and supply when love is involved. However, another interpretation is that channeling her power through her tears was actually releasing the drop of sunlight that created the magical flower which gave Rapunzel her powers. Viewed in this light, such an effort was a once-off ability.

When Rapunzel’s mother, the Queen, falls ill during pregnancy, her subjects concoct a special tea from a magical plant grown from a drop of sunlight that fell to earth. The tea restores the queen’s health and gives the unborn Rapunzel magical healing powers, which reside in her unusually long golden hair. However, an evil and jealous woman namedMother Gothel sneaks into the bedroom one night soon after birth, as she has wanted the plant’s magical abilities for herself, ever since her first discovery of the plant centuries ago. Mother Gothel initially attempts to steal a lock of Rapunzel’s magic hair, but upon discovering that cutting the hair destroys its power, she decides to kidnap the infant instead. Mother Gothel locks Rapunzel in a tower away from the outside world, and raises the girl as her own. Rapunzel matures into a teenager, spending all of her time confined to the tower with no one for company but Gothel and her chameleon friend, Pascal. Gothel continually tells Rapunzel that the world is a dark and cruel place full of detestable creatures and people. Rapunzel is also never informed of her status as a princess, nor has she ever been told of her real history.

Every year on her birthday since her youth, Rapunzel has witnessed a festival of lights in the nearby kingdom of Corona, unaware that it is both in remembrance of her kidnapping when she was a baby and a beacon for her to find a way home. Rapunzel can’t help but feel drawn to the lights and dreams of one day traveling to the kingdom herself to see the festival. On her eighteenth birthday, Rapunzel gathers the courage to ask Mother Gothel to go see the festival, but Gothel elaborately refuses with “Mother Knows Best“, and orders Rapunzel not to ask to leave the tower again. A while later when Gothel is out, Flynn Rider, a handsome thief, decides to use Rapunzel’s tower as a hiding place after stealing the crown and escaping from the royal guards of Corona. Rapunzel knocks Flynn unconscious and hides him in her closet. Noticing the crown inside a satchel belonging to Flynn, she curiously examines the object and is momentarily captivated by wearing it.

Rapunzel hopes to show Mother Gothel the captured Flynn in an attempt to prove that she can indeed handle herself in the outside world. Upon her return however, Gothel is even more aggravated at Rapunzel’s second request to leave the tower and shouts at Rapunzel that she will never leave the tower. Left with no other viable option, she keeps Flynn hidden and wearily asks for more paints as her birthday present, which will take Mother Gothel three days to retrieve. Gothel then leaves on the journey, promising to return in three days.

Immediately, Rapunzel begins to forcibly recruit Flynn into helping her fulfill her dream to see the lanterns in exchange for the satchel that she has hidden deep in the tower. Rapunzel, Flynn, and Pascal leave the tower, whereupon Flynn tries several tricks to get rid of Rapunzel and get his satchel back. One of these tricks includes him taking Rapunzel to the local tavern, the Snuggly Duckling, where they encounter just the kind ofruffians and thugs that Gothel has warned Rapunzel about. However, Rapunzel manages to gain their friendship by explaining to them her dream of seeing the floating lanterns and leads them in singing “I’ve Got a Dream“, but not before they send for the palace guards, hoping to gain a reward for the capture of Flynn. After they finish the song, the guards arrive, searching for Flynn. Rapunzel escapes the tavern with Flynn through a secret passageway. As they traverse the cavern, Rapunzel curiously asks Flynn where he has come from, but Flynn casually refuses to answer. While he acknowledges that she too has secrets she doesn’t want to tell, he can’t help but ask her why she hasn’t gone to see the lanterns before. She hesitates, but just then, they realize they are being rapidly pursued by the palace guards.

Alfred Angelo’s Disney Princess Bridal Snow White 2014 Collection

Princess Snow White is the titular character and protagonist of Disney’s first animated feature-length film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

She is a young Princess; the “Fairest of Them All” who, in her innocence, cannot see any of the evil in the world. This makes her more vulnerable to her jealous stepmother the Queen, who wishes to be the fairest in the land; however, Snow White’s inherent kindness and purity inspires her friends, the forest animals and the Seven Dwarfs to protect her. In the film, she is both a protective mother figure and an innocent child in her relationship with the forest animals and the Seven Dwarfs.

Image

Image

Background

Snow White was born into the royal family. Her mother the Queen died shortly after her birth. After some time, the King, Snow White’s father, remarried a vain and cold-hearted queen. Not long after their marriage, the King, Snow’s beloved father died, leaving the young princess an orphan.

As a young child, Snow White’s vain and wicked stepmother Queen Grimhilde feared that one day Snow White’s beauty would surpass her own. So, she dressed Snow White in rags and forced her to work as a scullery maid. Each day, the Queen consulted her magic mirror asking, “Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?”. As long as theMirror answered, “You are the fairest one of all”, Snow White was safe from her stepmother’s cruel jealousy.

Personality

Oh! What a cute little chair. Why, there’s seven little chairs. Must be seven little children. And from the look of this table, seven untidy little children.
―Snow White regarding the Seven Dwarfs

Snow White is the sweetest and the most gentle of all the Disney Princesses. She’s naïve, resilient, sentimental, helpful and kind, but can also be quite assertive and has the sternness of a mother, seeing as she warns the dwarfs if they don’t wash their hands, they’ll get nothing to eat and when scolds some of the birds after they attacked the Queen in her old hag form. She’s also shown to be quite playful, seeing as she teased Grumpy by laughing when he hit his nose as he left to wash in a huff.

She is a dreamer and a romantic, but is willing to work hard if need be to earn her keep. She enjoys singing, dancing, cooking (thanks to her stepmother making her a scullery servant in the castle), daydreaming, and loves all animals. Her kindness and generosity can often blind her judgment and she’s quick to break rules if it means to help someone in trouble (as seen when she helped the old crone when her animal friends started to attack her). She’s always quick to rebel against anything that will go against her high moral values, such as when she let the disguised Queen enter the cottage, thinking her as a sickly, old beggar, despite the Grumpy warnings.

Possibly because her own parents have died, Snow White’s very empathetic towards the dwarfs when she had at first assumed that they were a group of orphaned children when she thought they had no mother or father. Snow White is well known as an optimist. Even when others were rude to her or when things looked grim, she always gave a positive look on life.

Snow White is the most pure-hearted of the Disney Princesses; she’s never mean, cruel, or stubborn, and, because of her resilience and hopeful nature, she shows a great inner strength against adversity. This is an example of the fact that one does not have to be physically tough to be strong.

She’s coined as the Fairest Of Them All; this is because of her purity showing much more beauty than the Queen‘s vanity and jealousy. Also Snow White had a lot of other Queens who where very jealous of her so they would do anything to not make her happy.

Physical Appearance

Lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin white as snow.
Magic Mirror to the Evil Queen

Snow White is a cute 14-year old girl, often described as the “fairest in the land.” The phrase “lips red as a rose, hair black as ebony, and skin white as snow”, describes her most notable features, being her rosy red lips and rosy cheeks, and both her hair and skin color. She is sweet, but also shy. Being fairly short in height, Snow White also has a rather slender, flat-chested figure and dainty little feet.

Her simple signature court dress consists of an indigo bodice with a high white collar; her short puffy sleeves are a lighter blue color than her bodice and the red cloth poking through exemplify the “slashing” design, which was very fashionable in Tudor times. It involved cutting the cloth on the outside of the outfit and pulling through another layer of cloth from underneath.

Snow White’s long, shapeless skirt flows down just past her ankles and has been depicted as either bright yellow (as often shown in marketing), or light yellow (as it’s shown in the film). She has a white petticoat underneath and tan pumps with yellow bows on them. Snow White’s short black hair is styled in a bob and parted in the middle. And she wears a red headband with a bow.

Abilities

  • Expert Cook: Thanks to her work as a scullery servant in her stepmother’s castle, Snow White has knowledge of cooking, which she showcased in the film. She made soup for the dwarves, and after Happy smelled it, he commented that it smelled good and attempted to try it. Then in the deleted scene of “Music In Your Soup”, the dwarves (including Grumpy) appeared to enjoy the soup as they ate it. Snow White made a gooseberry pie for Grumpy. She can prepare other dishes such as apple dumplings and plum pudding. The details of Snow White’s ability weren’t focused on, but it appears she is good at it.
  • Practical skills: Snow White is able to lead the animals to help with the cleaning of the dwarfs cottage. She also makes sure that the dwarfs don’t eat until they’re clean.

The Evil Queen, jealous of her stepdaughter’s beauty, forces Snow White to work as a scullery servant in her castle; even in rags and clogs, however, her beauty shines through, causing the Queen to worry that Snow White’s beauty may one day surpass her own. She has such vanity that she consults her Magic Mirrorevery day, ordering the slave within to reveal the name of the fairest in the land. Every day the spirit says that the Queen is the fairest, and she is content, until the mirror informs her that Snow White has finally become the fairest in the land. Outside, as Snow White works, she sings “I’m Wishing“, attracting the attention of the Prince, who is passing by. As she sings into the well, performing a duet with her echo, she is startled as the Prince suddenly joins in. She runs indoors, and watches from a balcony as he sings “One Song“. The two are immediately infatuated with each other. Watching from above is the Queen, who angrily closes the curtains of her window in jealousy.

The Queen summons her huntsman to her and orders him to kill Snow White. The Queen asks him to bring her heart back in a special box as proof that he has succeeded in the task. The Huntsman takes Snow White to a secluded glade and, checking that no one else is present, advances on the princess as she is helping a young bird return to its parents. Snow White sees the Huntsman’s shadow on the rock in front of her, turns around and screams in terror. However, the Huntsman cannot bring himself to kill her upon seeing the beauty in a princess such as herself and begs Snow White for forgiveness. He tells her of the Queen’s insane jealousy and tells her to run away and never come back. She takes his advice and flees through the forest, and her fright is manifested in the plants around her; branches suddenly resemble claw-like hands, and floating logs resemble crocodiles. Overcome by terror, she eventually collapses, sobbing. As light enters the forest, the woodland creatures cautiously approach Snow White while she cries, and she befriends them. Together they sing “With A Smile And A Song“. No longer frightened, Snow White asks the animals if they know where she can stay. They lead her to the cottage of the Seven Dwarfs; she enters and finds that no one is home. Noticing that the whole cottage is a complete mess, she cleans the house, with the help of the animals. She hopes that its residents, whom she believes to be children due to the size of the furniture, will let her stay if she cleans up for them. At this point she sings “Whistle While You Work“. Later that evening, she and the animals go upstairs to find seven little beds. Feeling sleepy, she falls asleep over three of them.

The Seven Dwarfs return home from a day’s work at the Dwarfs’ Mine. They see light coming from the window of their cottage and smoke coming from its chimney. They enter the house, creeping around as they search for the ‘monster’ they believe that has invaded their home. They hear a noise (some birds from the forest, joking about) coming from upstairs, and, after an unsuccessful attempt by Dopey to chase the thing down, they enter the bedroom together. They approach the three beds that are being slept in, and are about to strike when Doc removes the bed cover to reveal Snow White sleeping. They are all infatuated with her, but Grumpygrumbles about her unwelcome presence, waking her up. She is first startled by the dwarfs, but soon befriends them, guessing the names ofDocBashfulSleepySneezyHappyDopey and Grumpy because their names are carved on the beds. All the dwarfs except for Grumpy agree that Snow White is welcome to stay if she does the housework for them. A noise from downstairs reminds Snow White that she has left some soup boiling. She rushes downstairs, and tells the dwarfs that it is almost ready, and that they will have time to wash. She asks the dwarfs to see their hands and, upon seeing that their hands are dirty, insists them to march straight outside and wash; otherwise, they will not get anything to eat. The dwarfs reluctantly march outside and wash while singingBluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum (The Dwarfs’ Washing Song). They have just finished washing themselves when Snow White calls to them that supper is ready.

After supper, the dwarfs perform “The Silly Song” for Snow White, and she dances with Dopey (who reaches her height by standing on Sneezy‘s shoulders). She then repays them when she sings “Some Day My Prince Will Come” as the dwarfs listen. The dwarfs then declare that Snow White will sleep upstairs, and that the dwarfs will find somewhere to sleep downstairs. Before Snow White goes to sleep, she says her prayers, blessing the seven little men for being so kind to her and wishing to make her dreams come true, as well as asking to make Grumpy like her.

At the Queen’s Castle, the Queen, after being told by the Magic Mirrorthat Snow White still lives, descends into her laboratory and transforms into the Witch. She prepares the Poisoned Apple, one bite of which will send it’s victim into the Sleeping Death, which can only be cured by ‘Love’s First Kiss’. Believing the dwarves will bury the princess alive, the Witch leaves the castle and proceeds towards the Dwarfs’ Cottage.

The next morning, Snow White kisses each dwarf goodbye as they leave for the mine. Before Grumpy leaves (being the last one to depart), he warns her not to let anyone or anything in the house. Touched that he cares despite his negative exterior, Snow White decides to bake a pie for Grumpy with help from her animal friends. She is then startled by the appearance of the Queen, disguised as an old peddler selling apples, peering through her window. She offers Snow White the apple, but is attacked by the woodland creatures, who recognize the danger. Snow White shoos the animals away and takes the old woman inside for a drink of water. Meanwhile, the animals rush off to fetch the dwarfs. Thankful toward Snow White for being so good to “poor old Granny,” the Queen tells her that the apple (which has been poisoned) is a magic wishing apple, capable of making all of Snow White’s wishes come true with a single bite. Snow White takes the apple and, before taking a bite, wishes for the Prince to carry her away to his castle, where they will live happily ever after. The Queen then persuades her to take a bite before the wish grows cold. Snow White does so and soon falls to the floor after feeling the poison’s effects, which causes her to fall into a Sleeping Death. As the Queen is leaving, she is seen by the dwarfs, who chase her to a cliff, where she falls to her death to be eaten by vultures.

The dwarfs find Snow White and they grieve her “death” as they return home. In mourning, they hold a funeral for her at their cottage. Finding her so beautiful, even in death, they cannot find it in their hearts to bury her and instead place her in a handmade coffin carved of glass and gold.

As the time goes by, the Prince hears of this and rides to the clearing where her coffin has been placed. The dwarfs make way for the Prince to approach Snow White. He then gives the princess a kiss, a “Love’s First Kiss”, which breaks the curse, reviving Snow White. She wakes up and, upon seeing the Prince, extends her arms out to him as he scoops her up in her arms. The dwarfs rejoice, as the Prince carries Snow White to his horse. She kisses each dwarf goodbye before leaving with the Prince for his castle (the outline of which is shown in the clouds above), where they live happily ever after.

Alfred Angelo’s Disney Princess Tiana 2014 Collection in stock now matching girls Princess Tiana

“You can’t get what you want just by wishing for it.
―TianaImage

Princess Tiana is the protagonist of Disney’s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. The storyline centers on young Tiana, a waitress and aspiring restaurant owner living in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the Jazz Age, and a prince named Naveen who has been transformed into a frog by the evil voodoo magician Dr. Facilier. She is voiced by Anika Noni Rose and is the ninth official Disney Princess.

ImageImage

Tiana made history as the first African American princess in the Disney Princess franchise.

Early in development, Tiana was originally called Maddy and worked as a chambermaid in the La Bouff household. However, public criticism eventually caused her character’s name to be changed to Tiana and her job, a waitress. Disney spokeswoman Heidi Trotta later stated “Princess Tiana will be a heroine in the great tradition of Disney’s rich animated fairy tale legacy, and all other characters and aspects of the story will be treated with the greatest respect and sensitivity.” This reworking of the story itself was greatly inspired by the life story of New Orleans chef Leah Chase, and she in turn would contribute to the “Tiana’s Cookbook” that was published when the film came out.

Ron Clements and John Musker decided not to hire “big stars” to voice the film’s main characters because “it can help with the identification of that animated character with the voice if you don’t get an instant mental picture of the real actor.” Several well-known African American actresses and singers had expressed an interest in voicing Tiana, among them recording artists Beyoncé KnowlesJennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys, as well as actress and fashion model Tyra Banks. After enduring three auditions, the role ultimately went to American actress and singer Anika Noni Rose, with whom Hudson co-starred in the musical film Dreamgirls.

A longtime fan of Walt Disney Animation Studios, Rose had always wanted to voice a Disney animated character. When the film was brought to her attention, she was drawn to it more by its “story of the young woman” than by the fact that she would be voicing Disney’s first black princess. Rose told The Root that the film “wasn’t really pitched to me that way…I don’t think the cultural significance hit me until later”. Rose was also fairly confident in the role. “To be perfectly honest, I thought it was for me from the moment I got the audition.”Image

Rose described the recording process as “very solitary work” that required her to do much research. To prepare herself for the role, Rose “called people in New Orleans…listened to their voices to hear what they sounded like…did a lot of reading up on the city, and listened to a lot of music in the jazz era.” Rose only met with her co-star Bruno Campos twice to record a few scenes together. At her first session, Rose recorded all her dialogue “from top to bottom” in a session that lasted eight hours.

Mark Henn served as the supervising animator for Tiana. Henn was hired by John Lasseter because he had animated nearly every Disney Princess since The Little Mermaid‘s Ariel. Describing Tiana, Henn said that she is following “a new trend in our princesses,” likening her to Ariel from The Little Mermaid. “When animating Tiana, Henn was inspired by voice actress Anika Noni Rose, borrowing from her dimples and left-handedness. Henn was also inspired by studio employee Jaimie Milner, a film intern who was working in post production.” The fact that Tiana is African American was “never a big issue” for Henn when it came to animating her, but drawing her as both a human and a frog proved difficult.” Tiana appears in the movie in so many different forms…she’s a little girl, she’s an adult human, and then she’s a frog.”

Tiana was born to James and Eudora in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they raised her in an all-black neighborhood. Tiana has been a talented cook since she was very young, and shared the dream of opening a restaurant with James, which he called ‘Tiana’s Place’. Tiana’s father taught his daughter that in order to achieve her dreams, wishing was only part of it, and that she would need to work hard for them. However, James also told her to never forget what was most important, which, though Tiana thought that her father was talking about her dreams and getting the restaurant, what he truly meant was love. After James died, Tiana worked long and hard to earn enough money to achieve her goal, working two jobs and almost never taking time for fun.

Tiana has been best friends with Charlotte La Bouff since they were little girls, and Eudora read stories to them, such as “The Frog Prince“. As a child, Tiana was frightened of frogs, and swore that she would never kiss one, but 12 years later, she did kiss a prince turned into a frog, which is where her adventure began.

Tiana is a beautiful young woman of African-American heritage. She is tall and slender with a sculpted figure, has dark skin, medium-length, wavy, black hair usually tied in a low ponytail, light brown eyes, a bright smile and dimples.

Throughout the movie, much like Jasmine in Aladdin, Tiana undergoes various outfit changes. The first of which being her work outfits. When working her night shifts, Tiana wears a blue outfit, brown shoes, as well as a headband style maid’s hat. When working her day job at Buford’s Diner, Tiana wears a yellow dress over a white shirt, a white apron, with brown shoes. She also owns a dark green coat, with a matching hat which she wears on her way to the diner in the mornings. With this outfit, Tiana wears a low ponytail, wrapped up in a green band.

Originally, at Charlotte’s masquerade ball, Tiana wore a renaissance costume, with honey yellow and a light green/brown as its primary colors. Later than same night, she dawns her iconic blue princess gown, lone to her by Charlotte. The dress also came with a matching tiara, as well as a necklace, complete with a blue diamond. During her confrontation with Dr. Facilier, Tiana was put in a white, sleeveless gown, with golden straps, diamond earrings, a golden necklace, and a white feather, resembling the classic 1920s swinger outfits. Along with this, came a beige, fur shawl.

Tiana’s iconic lily pad outfit is a green, sparkling, strapless, sleeveless ball gown. The gown’s petticoat is a light yellow color. Along with the gown, Tiana wears light green opera gloves, green shoes to match the gown, a light blue, diamond necklace with matching earrings, and a lily pad tiara to top it all off. With this outfit, Tiana’s hair is pinned up in an updo bun.

Tiana’s wedding outfit was a beige dress (that reveals her backside), with a matching Juliet cap, transparent gloves, as well as a green tiara. Her dress also consist of green linings, with a flower on the shoulder. During the finale opening of Tiana’s Palace, she wore another green sweater outfit, with a golden tiara, complete with a emerald on the top.

Personality

Tiana is a motivated, determined and a hard working young woman who finds pride in doing things her own way, without help from anyone. During the early scenes of the film, Tiana is too absorbed in her work ethics to care much about anything else, especially romance. However, Tiana gradually begins to fall in love with Naveen, and realizes the most important thing in the world is not only success and hard work, but a balance between friendship, love and fun.

Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Tiana, says: “She’s a strong woman who doesn’t need anyone to do things for her…She wants to do things for herself.” She must learn that balance is important in life; to be happy, she needs both love and a career. On The Princess and the Frog bonus features, Anika Noni Rose announced that she and Tiana are left-handed.

Tiana doesn’t like to be underestimated, as seen by the expression she made to the comment by Mr. Fenner, about a woman of her background having her hands full running a big business. She started to stand up for herself for them to change their minds, but fell down after beignets got on her dress. Tiana is sensible; she would push away Naveen’s romantic advances on her, then reminded him that he was getting married after he was flirting with butterflies. Tiana is friends with Charlotte La Bouffe, and when Charlotte became nervous and wished on a star Tiana tried to tell her that you can’t just wish on a star.

Abilities

From early in the film, it is revealed that Tiana is a natural expert in the culinary arts. She is able to dice and chop a variety of vegetables at incredible speeds, and cook a delicious meal out of very little. She can recognize the ingredients needed for the dish, and Tiana was even able to transform Mama Odie’s nauseous soup to perfection. The fact that Tiana baked five hundred beignets for Charlotte’s masquerade ball that was the next day means Tiana is a competent enough cook. Tiana’s gift has been pointed out on several occasions, by her father and by Naveen.

From working as a waitress, Tiana has excellent balance and hand/eye coordination. She could balance four trays of food on her head, hands, and right foot that were tossed one after the other before balancing three trays on her head and hands.

Tiana has intelligence, too, because she built a raft when it doesn’t appear she was taught how to build one. She was smart enough to flick her tongue out to grab Dr. Facilier’s talisman to break it. Tiana is the only princess with a real job, and considering she didn’t go to college, has knowledge of economy to run her business, even though people underestimated her.

Tiana showcased her relatively quick adaptability as a frog; she could hop fast enough to get away from Stella considering she became a frog not long before that. Tiana avoided getting eaten by a crane, one of the natural predators of frogs. When a group of alligators tried to eat her and Naveen, Tiana swam away without being caught and, unlike Naveen, found a hiding spot. Furthermore, Tiana had enough physical strength as a frog to escape from a hunter’s grasp by bending back his fingers with her feet.

In the chapter book continuation of the film, The Stolen Jewel, it is revealed both Tiana and Naveen hold the ability of communicating with animals, having kept that ability from their time as frogs.

The film begins during Tiana’s childhood where we see her and her best friend Charlotte La Bouff listening to the classic tale “The Frog Prince” read by Tiana’s mother Eudora while she finishes Charlotte’s newest princess gown. Whilst Charlotte adores the tale and openly wishes to find a prince and one day become a princess, Tiana shows that she’s somewhat unamused with the story, considerably the kissing finale between the princess and the frog. After the story’s completion, Tiana and her mother depart, heading for home where they greet Tiana’s father, the hardworking James. Later on, with the help of James, Tiana makes dinner, gumbo. Tiana gives her father a taste of some of her gumbo which she hopes to be the prime attraction when she and her father open their very own restaurant “Tiana’s Place”. That night, as Tiana was being put to bed, the young girl makes a wish on the evening star in hopes of getting her restaurant dream come true. James, however, tells Tiana that wishing can only get her halfway to her dream, and hard-work is also needed, which she understands.

Years later, it is revealed that a now adult Tiana is still struggling to reach her dream even after her father passed away. Since childhood, she has become a mature young woman, though she has discarded her original childhood imagination of wishing and such and has become an overly practical workaholic instead. She works as a waitress at two local diners during the day and night. The desire to open the restaurant prevents Tiana from going out with her friends as she must work extra for more pay. Meanwhile, a handsome prince named Naveen arrives in New Orleans to marry Charlotte. To celebrate, Charlotte plans on throwing a masquerade ball and hires Tiana to make dozens of beignets, paying her with enough money to buy her restaurant. Excited, Tiana and her mother place a bid on an old run down sugar mill that Tiana’s father had talked about many times before and had planned to use as the location. Though the building is extremely worn out and practically falling apart, Tiana couldn’t have been more excited with her dream coming closer and closer to coming true.

Later that night at the ball, Tiana discovers that she’s been out bid and unless she earns enough money in two days, she loses the restaurant (though it is possible the restaurant was being withheld from her due to her race, which is historically accurate given that the movie takes place in the Southern United States, but this is never elaborated on). After a mishap, Tiana ruins her outfit and goes to Charlotte’s room to change. Charlotte gives her a princess gown and heads back down to the ball. Sadly, Tiana heads to the balcony and, in desperation, makes a wish on the evening star in hopes of making things work out in the end. After her wish, Tiana meets a talking frog who reveals to be Prince Naveen. After being cursed by a voodoo witch doctor, Naveen needs help from Tiana who he believes is a princess. Following the tale of “The Frog Prince“, Naveen asks Tiana for a kiss in an attempt to break the spell. Unfortunately, Tiana is incredibly hesitant to kiss a frog, but Naveen offers her a reward, telling her that he comes from a fabulously wealthy family. Knowing she needs more money to open her restaurant, Tiana reluctantly kisses Naveen. The only thing it does, however, is change Tiana into a frog, as well, being that she wasn’t actually a princess. Enraged at her shocking transformation, Tiana attacks Naveen, having them both fall off the balcony and onto the ball’s dance floor. Charlotte’s father, Big Daddy, orders their dog Stella to get the frogs. Tiana and Naveen luckily escape on a balloon, which floats over to the cold, miserable bayous of New Orleans.

Unfortunately, the balloon pops and lands the two in a swamp filled with alligators. They find shelter in a hallow tree, deciding to stay there until morning. In the mix of the chaos, Naveen promises to pay for Tiana’s restaurant if she can help him out the swamp. Tiana agrees, rescues the prince, and the next morning, the two begin their journey. On the way, they meet Louis, an alligator with a gift of playing the trumpet. Louis and Naveen quickly become friends, sharing a passion for music. Louis’ gift has Naveen wondering why Louis has never tried playing with the other great musicians of New Orleans, but Louis explains his last attempt to do so ended with the audiance, as well as the musicians, panicking at the sight of a gator. Tiana then interrupts the friendship and drags Naveen ahead, telling Louis they need to find someone to break their spell. However, Louis doesn’t understand until Naveen and Tiana explain that they are truly human turned into frogs via the magic of a voodoo witch doctor. Hearing voodoo, Louis informs them of Mama Odie, a voodoo priest who can help them turn human. Though Louis is originally against taking them to her, being too afraid of the dangers that may lie ahead, Naveen convinces the gator to change their mind, having Louis realize Mama Odie could turn him human as well. The trio then make their way but eventually get lost.

They then meet Ray, a romantic firefly who’s in love with the evening star, who he calls Evangeline. Ray happily decides to light the way and act as their guide to Mama Odie, with the help of his massive family of fireflies. During their journey, Tiana and Naveen begin to become closer, especially after saving each other from a trio of bumbling frog hunters. During a rest, Naveen helps Tiana cook for the friends by mincing some mushrooms. With that being the first piece of work Naveen has ever done, he reveals that, despite living the charm life of a prince, he feels deep down that he knows how to do absolutely nothing besides partying, which he is ashamed of. Tiana, feeling sympathy, compliments Naveen’s mincing skills, growing the two even closer than before. Moments later, Ray introduces his friends to Evangeline, singing a love ballad in her honor. During which, Naveen attempts to waltz with Tiana, but the waitress declines, admitting that she’s never learned to dance. Naveen decides that, in return for teaching him how to mince, he’ll teach Tiana how to dance. After the romantic waltz, Naveen officially falls in love.

Unfortunately, the romantic moment is soon ruined when Naveen is captured by a pack of shadow demons sent by the witch doctor Doctor Facilier, who needs Naveen to fulfill his evil scheme to take over New Orleans. He is soon saved by Mama Odie, who takes them to her home; a boat in a tree. Tiana tries to explain to Mama that all they want is to be human, but Mama Odie knows what Tiana and Naveen really want after the adventure they had, was each other. However, Tiana fails to realize this and believes Mama Odie’s motto of “dig a little deeper” means work extra hard to get her restaurant. Though Naveen completely understands that, instead of riches, what his heart truly desires was Tiana. But with Tiana misunderstanding, Mama Odie decides to put the romance aside and give the two frogs the solution to their problem. Mama Odie tells them that if Naveen were to kiss a princess, they’ll both turn human. She then uses her magic brew to locate a nearby princess, which reveals to be Charlotte, who is princess of the Mardi Gras Parade. Unfortunately, Naveen only has until midnight, when Mardi Gras is over, to kiss Charlotte and break the spell. They head off on a riverboat to New Orleans, where Naveen decides he wants to reveal his true feelings to Tiana, figuring he’ll merely get a job to help raise money for her restaurant.

Naveen sets up a date later that night, under the stars on the riverboat. The prince was far too sheepish to successfully reveal the truth, but Tiana still finds his fumbling to be cute. Just then, the riverboat begins passing the old building Tiana plans on using for her restaurant. Tiana takes the time to tell Naveen about her dreams to open the restaurant. Knowing he can’t afford to pay for the restaurant without marrying Charlotte and inheriting her fortune, Naveen decides not to tell her how he truly feels, for the sake of her dream. The riverboat then prepares to dock, and Naveen heads off to find Louis and Ray. Once he’s gone, Tiana sadly speaks to Evangeline about her dilemma, revealing that she, too, is actually in love with Naveen, despite the fact that he must marry Charlotte for the money he promised for her restaurant. Meanwhile, right before docking, Naveen is kidnapped by the shadow demons.

Tiana, Louis, and Ray are oblivious to Naveen’s capture, and after getting off the riverboat, Tiana asks Ray if he’s seen Naveen. Instead, Ray accidentally tells Tiana that Naveen actually loves her and plans on getting a job to pay for her restaraunt. Overjoyed, Tiana and Ray head off to the Mardi Gras parade to find him and return the feelings. Sadly, Tiana, instead, finds Naveen, as a human, atop a parade float about to marry Charlotte. Heartbroken, Tiana runs off. Ray follows and tries to convince Tiana that they should go back to look more into what they say, but Tiana discards the idea, losing her faith in wishing and dreams once more. Determined to show Tiana the truth, Ray flies back to the parade, where he learns that the Naveen they saw about to marry Charlotte is actually Naveen’s former valet, Lawrence in disguise. It turns out Lawrence was under the disguise as part of Facilier’s plot, who plans on having Lawrence (in disguise) marry Charlotte and steal the La Bouff fortune by doing so, making Facilier the richest man in New Orleans. The real Naveen, still as a frog, was in captivity until Ray rescues him.

Naveen then grabs a talisman on Lawrence’s neck. The talisman gives Lawrence the ability to morph into Naveen and without it, Facilier’s plans to gain the La Bouff fortune would be foiled. Naveen passes the talisman over to Ray, who rushes back to the cemetery to foil Facilier and show Tiana the truth. Once the talisman was handed over, Ray instructs Tiana to keep it away from Facilier at all costs, prompting the girl to run in fear as the shadow demons were in hot pursuit. Tiana tries to escape but the evil Dr. Facilier meets up with her, changes her back to human, and conjures up a vision of the restaurant. Facilier tries to use all this to manipulate Tiana into striking a simple deal with him, handing over the talisman for her dream come true. Though Tiana was against the deal, Facilier decided to bring up people’s doubts of her before settling on the subject of her deceased father, telling her that his dream never came true, but by accepting the offer, she could make it happen. The discussion of James actually backfires on the evil doctor, and Tiana realizes that her father had love, which was much more important than what he wanted.

Tiana attempts to destroy the trinket, but Facilier’s living shadow grabs it and hands it back to the doctor. Tiana is changed back to a frog and held down by the evil doctor. Facilier taunts the heroine, telling her she’d always be a frog for “foolishly” denying his deal. Fortunately, with quick thinking and a flick of her tongue, Tiana gets hold of the talisman and shatters it to pieces. After its destruction, Tiana watches in fear as Facilier is dragged away to the underworld by voodoo spirits and demons as punishment for his failure in taking over the city. After the cost is clear, Tiana heads back to the concluded Mardi Gras parade, where she witnesses Lawrence being arrested, learning he was the “Naveen” she witnessed on the parade float. Not too far away, Tiana finds Naveen, who was in the process of making a deal with Charlotte. If she turns him human through a kiss, he’d marry her, so long as she pays for Tiana’s restaurant. Before the kiss, Tiana arrives and reveals her love, telling Naveen her dream would be incomplete without him in it. Seeing the beautiful sight, Charlotte agrees to kiss Naveen, but only for Tiana’s dream come true. But the clock strikes twelve, and Charlotte is no longer a princess as Mardi Gras was officially over. Nevertheless, Tiana and Naveen were happy being frogs, so long as they could stay together.

Tiana attends his funeral but rejoices after Ray becomes a star right beside Evangeline. Tiana and Naveen marry in the bayou with Mama Odie taking charge of the ceremony. As they kiss, they turn back into humans, as Tiana is now a princess by marrying Naveen. After having a royal wedding as humans in New Orleans, Tiana and Naveen use the money that she saved to open the restaurant (with a little intimidation help from Louis, who frightens the snooty bidders into accepting what Tiana had). The restaurant, as hoped, is a big success with people from all around attending, just as Tiana dreamed. PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

Belle is an attractive young woman; however, she is modestly beautiful because she doesn’t give much thought to her own appearance. Although she is known throughout her village for her beauty, she isn’t vain or concerned about her looks, but ironically greatly aware that her fellow citizens think of her as “odd” and “peculiar”. Belle pays very little attention to her appearance, unlike the very much conceited Gaston, whom only wishes to wed her because she is attractive. He cares very little for her personality, her intelligence (he hates the very idea of a woman thinking or reading) or the way she wants to live her life.

Belle has long brunette hair, most often tied back in a low ponytail, and possesses captivating hazel eyes, full lips, rosy cheeks, and a sculpted figure. One of her more distinct features are the strands of hair that are constantly slipping loose from her ponytail and falling in front of her face, she is often seen brushing them back into place when nervous or trying to be polite.

Throughout the film, Belle wears various outfits depending on the occasion. Her most elaborate and renowned is her golden ball gown, in which she shares her first dance with the Beast in the “Beauty and the Beast” sequence. With this outfit, she wears some of her hair in a neat bun, but the majority of it trails down her neck in a beautiful, flowing motion, resembling a ponytail.

The storywriters and producers of Beauty and the Beast wanted to give Belle’s movements an air of elegance, so they studied the movements of ballerinas during the course of Belle’s development. Like ballerinas, Belle walks diligently and swiftly on her toes no matter what types of shoes she is wearing, or where she is located. The designers and artists wanted Belle to be more noticeable in a crowd, so they payed extra close attention to her wardrobe, making sure that Belle would be the only member of the town to wear blue, whilst the other townsfolk sported more rustic and earthy colors, such as red, green, orange and brown.

PERSONALITY

Belle has gained a significant amount of intelligence over the years due to her love of books, providing her with a wide vocabulary, active imagination and open mind. She is very confident and outspoken in her opinions, and seldom likes being told what to do. Unlike most characters in the film, Belle isn’t concerned about hers or other’s appearances, and is able to look past how people appear and into their hearts. This is how Belle managed to break the Beast’s enchantment, and restore love and laughter to the castle.

Belle is somewhat a women’s-libber for her time, and refuses to be mistreated, undermined, demeaned or controlled by any man, especially and specifically Gaston (in fact, he makes it quite clear that his ideal marriage with Belle includes her having “six or seven” good-looking sons with him, massaging his feet, cooking his dinner, scrubbing the floors, and above all, no reading as he considers intelligence in women to be ridiculous; this is taken one step further in his song in the musical, in which he sings that womankind “occasionally” serves a purpose in marriage, specifically “extending the family tree”). However, Belle willingly listens to her father, Maurice, and considers the opinions and directions of the Beast, because they are both able to treat her as an equal (the Beast eventually learned how throughout the course of the film), while Gaston views Belle and all women of the village as property. She is quite obstinate when it comes to stating her points, upholding her opinions, and maintaining her ideas. Ironically, although she decries Gaston’s conceit, she also proved herself to be slightly conceited and condescending in her opening song, where she decried her village as the “provincial life,” as well as briefly rolling her eyes when the baker had to interrupt his conversation with Belle to get his coworker Marie to finish up the baquettes. In addition, she briefly referred to the village as being full of “little people” in the same song. Even though Belle had said in the film that she dream in adventure, she has also stated that she also wishes for a friend who accepts her for who she is, because of everyone in town criticize her because of how she does her own thing and they don’t understand why. Which makes her feel that she does fit in but despite this even when people gave her a hard time she never changed, but came to a better understanding of herself; which made the biggest difference by her breaking the spell and charming the Beast just by being herself.

ImageDisney Blossoms Belle dress 2014

Belle’s personality transforms throughout the film. At first, she frequently dreams about a life of adventure and romance, not realizing that sometimes adventures might take a turn for the worst. As Belle begins to spend more time with the Beast, and their relationship blossoms into a strong friendship, she begins to fall in love with him without realizing it. As she matures during the course of her imprisonment, her love for the Beast breaks the enchantment. Belle realizes that having dreams is great, but sometimes you need to look beyond them and find what you’re truly looking for.

How to Shop for a Wedding Dress

1>Decide when to shop. There’s no time too early to start looking, but there is a time that’s too late. Depending on where you get your dress, it could take several months for your dress to be ordered and shipped. From then, you’ll need several weeks for your seamstress to make alterations. You should start shopping about 9 months before your wedding, but preferably sooner. Veil_SLEEPING_BEAUTY_123_A_C

2>Decide where to shop. This will probably be a decision based on your budget. Decide whether you’ll shop at chains, small boutiques, etc. Decide how far you’ll travel to see dresses in person. If you want an expensive designer dress, you may have to contact individual shops to find out who stocks the specific dress. In bigger cities you’ll have access to a number of shops and boutiques, which will carry gowns from a number of designers, but they’ll probably be more on the expensive side.

3>Shopping online- can save you money if you have a good idea of what suits you but stick to a reputable company based in the country you live in to avoid buying twice!  Getting the dress sized correctly is very important so choose companies that do made to measure dresses . Ensure the measurements are taken by someone following their measurements description or the company themselves if you can visit them in person.

  • Many places don’t require an appointment, but you should make one anyway. This is to ensure you don’t wait around for an hour while the consultant helps customers who did have appointments. People with appointments will always come first.
  • Some people claim to have had bad experiences with chain stores, such as encountering sales consultants who are unfriendly or not helpful. It’s hit or miss. The good news is, those stores will always have another location somewhere nearby, and you can always go to the other one.
  • If you get a consultant who isn’t nice to you and you don’t want to check out the other location, just ask for a different consultant. If you’re too embarrassed to do so, just leave and report her to the manager anonymously. No sales consultant has the right to be unkind to a bride!
  • Some shops will not let you browse freely through the gowns. Don’t feel pressured into following their structure if you want to browse first before making decisions on dresses to try on do so.
  • Veil_BELLE_122_A_C

4>       Make sure another person goes along with you. You’ll definitely want an opinion aside from the consultant’s. However, don’t make the mistake of taking your mother, your maid of honor, your bridesmaid, your other bridesmaid, and your other bridesmaid’s little sister. Not only will they get in the way, but none of them will all agree on anything, and mostly likely, at least one of them won’t like whatever dress you’re trying on. It’s probably best to take one person (or maybe two, like your mother and maid of honor), whose opinion you trust and value.

5>If you’re allowed, take a camera (preferably digital) with you to take snapshots of the dresses you love the most so you can keep a record of them. You’ll probably try on many dresses during your search, and you’ll probably quickly forget the details of each dress as you try on the next one you love. Having photos helps you remember and compare them later so you can narrow down your choice. If you can’t take photos, keep a list of the designer and dress number or name so you can look them up online and save the photos that way.

  • Take along a bottle of water or something else hydrating. Trying on dresses can turn into a time-consuming experience, and it can also be a workout, so make sure you bring a beverage. Just be sure to keep it away from the dresses.
  • Photos of dresses you found online or in magazines, if you have any. Even if they’re dresses made by another designer, the shop you’re in may be able to help you look for something similar. A lot of chains have styles that bear a resemblance to dresses by an expensive designer as a cheaper alternative for brides with smaller budgets.
  • If you’ve already decided to wear a certain item (such as a specific pair of shoes, veil, or jewelry) because it has sentimental value, take the item along with you. If it’s absolutely necessary that you wear it on your wedding day, you’ll want to make sure the dress you choose goes well with it (though this may narrow your options considerably).

6>Look at choices for length, sleeve style, necklines, waistlines, trains, etc. There are a ton of options out there! Do a little research on what’s possible for certain fabrics and silhouettes, but don’t rule out gowns of a specific type because they don’t have all the little details you prefer. If you see what looks like the dress of your dreams but it has sleeves and you wanted a sleeveless, or if your dream gown ends up having a huge train and you wanted a shorter one, you can ask a seamstress to alter these things. However, remember that seamstresses often charge a whole lot for little things, so if you want to change TOO many things about your gown, you may be better off continue your search. Also keep in mind that most of the time, the same dress can be ordered in various colors. When you start to shop or search for gowns online, don’t pass up a dress just because it’s stark white and you want champagne. If you love it, check to see if it’s available in champagne.

7>Don’t be discouraged. Most women will try on many, many gowns during their search.  Some women get lucky and do find their dream dress shortly after they start looking.  Expect to try on anywhere between 5 and 150 dresses before finding the final one. Some women try on hundreds. Don’t feel bad if you shop for months and try on 600 dresses before you find the one that seems to be made for you. Don’t worry if you find your dream dress early on either just don’t continue to look instead trust your decision book in all your fittings and start shopping for the accessories to compliment your dress.

8>Have fun! This is a time in your life when you get to try on as many exquisite and expensive dresses as you want. You’ll be the center of attention (at least among your group at the shop) and people will treat you with special kindness because you’re a beautiful bride. Have fun!
